How Button Mushroom Helps In Fighting Cancer

Most people have never heard that mushrooms can help fight cancer, but the truth is that mushrooms like button mushrooms are very high in antioxidants. Some studies show that certain types of mushrooms can even inhibit the growth of cancer cells.

Eating mushrooms can help in fighting cancer. They are rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. The antioxidants eliminate free radicals or toxic byproducts of metabolism and other body processes. Vitamin B boosts energy and helps form red blood cells while choline helps in muscle movement, structure of cellular membranes, formation of memory. Potassium contributes to maintaining normal functions of the heart, kidneys and other organs while copper is important for forming red blood cells and iron for transporting oxygen around the body.

The National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health (NCI-NIH) released a statement on medicinal mushrooms. “Mushrooms are known to complement chemotherapy and radiation therapy by countering the side-effects of cancer, such as nausea, bone marrow suppression, anemia, and lowered immunity.” The NCI-NIH also found that the polysaccharide in mushrooms can activate Treg cells and help anti-tumor immune responses.

Mushrooms contain several types of vitamin D. Vitamin D1 is activated in the skin by sunlight, vitamin D2 is produced in plants and fungi, and vitamin D3 is created in the body by humans when exposed to the sun.
